WorldWideWeb - Executive Summary

The WWW project merges the techniques of information retrieval and hypertext to
make an easy but powerful global information system.

The project started with the philosophy that much academic information should
be freely available to anyone. It aims to allow information sharing within
internationally dispersed teams, and the dissemination of information by
support groups.

Tim,

I have to say that this "world wide web" thing sounds like a
ridiculous concept. I can't imagine it will take off. Next thing
you'll tell us is that people can do commerce through the "web" or
even browse pornography! I would never invest in it. I am going to put
my money in something with real potential, namely a floppy disk that
can hold 1.8 megabytes. This should be able to hold all the data you
could possibly want to carry around with you, for decades to come.
